Project Brevara

NEEDs STATEMENT

Low-resource hospitals need an affordable ventilator because current options are far too expensive to sustainably maintain. An average unit costs $50K USD to purchase and $2.5K to rent per day. This issue became incredibly apparent during the COVID-19 pandemic, when hospitals experienced an enormous shortage in ventilators, costing hundreds of lives.

CURRENT STAGE

Project Brevara was founded in early 2025. As such, we are focusing our efforts this semester on concepting, prototyping, and development roadmapping. Our goal is to develop fast, collect impactful user feedback, and improve our design to serve low-resource hospitals and communities.

Community partner

Our community partner is San Juan de Dios Hospital and a group of student doctors called SAIMER in Guatemala. While our project is new, the team preceding Project Brevara has an over 10-year relationship with our community partners, collaborating on complex issues like nursing shortages and pressure ulcer incidence in low-resource hospitals.
